Dragon
2001
One of the first questions people usually ask about a carving is
what kind of wood is it carved from.  This time, I'm not sure. I found
the piece of wood that this was carved from on the side of the road.
By late 2000 I had whittled a couple of broom handles and 2x4's,
and carved a wizard from a limb that fell out of tree in my yard, and I
wanted to try something bigger.
I saw this big chunk of wood on the side of the road, and after I
got it home, I decided that there was a dragon inside it.
For the next eight months, people would come over and look at it
and I'd say, " See, this will be his neck and it will arch around like this,
and his tail will come down this way and it'll curl around back to here
and . . . "
I could usually tell that they thought I had lost my mind.
     I kept going anyway.
By the time it was finished I was completely addicted and I've
been carving ever since.
The dragon would be almost 4 feet long from the tip if his nose to
the tip of his tail, if you could straighten him out.
The dragon and the "base" that it seems to be mounted on are
actually all one piece of wood.
